A much sort after dish during the holy month of Ramzaan. Introduced to the city by the Nizam’s, Hyderabadi Haleem is much loved for its richness and flavours. It is a meat dish cooked with pounded wheat and lentils for long hours, and served hot with sprinkled fried onions and topped with a boiled egg.

Irani Chai & Osmania Biscuits

Not just the main course, but even something as simple as tea and biscuit too has a typical Hyderabadi feel to it. Yes, we are talking about the famous Irani Chai and Osmania Biscuits, a combo that is sure to make your day.

Baghare Baingan

A very popular eggplant curry dish which has become an integral part of the Hyderabadi cuisine. The thick gravy made with whole spices and peanuts just add to the flavour. This is also enjoyed as an accompaniment with the famous Hyderabadi Biryani.

Hyderabadi Paaya

A well-known version of the stew made from animal trotters. The Hyderabadi Paaya is cooked with trotters of goat or lamb, along with chunks of meat, laden with spices that make the stew worth relishing.

Bheja Fry

If you’re a non-veg lover, then this can certainly satiate your hunger for something exclusive to the land of Nizams. Maghaz Masala or Bheja Fry (that’s what it is colloquially known as), is a lamb delicacy well enjoyed with roomali roti or lachcha paratha. This thick, fiery gravy with juicy meat is a must try!

This is a mini savoury and a Hyderabadi version of samosa, which is stuffed with minced meat, that makes it super different from the regular samosas we eat. The square shape also sets it different in the appearance. Enjoy it with the chutney served and you can’t stop at one.

So, next time in Hyderabad, do not just stop at Biryani. Add these flavoursome dishes to your list and let your taste buds wallow.
