A Red Punishment For The Common Man In Pune

Are you tired of staring at the splatter of red at every corner? The staircases, roadside corners and the clean walls that say "stick no bills", all have one thing in common, gutka stains. Disgusting marks of red spit thrown with force, that leave the area looking like a rotting crime scene.

Pune police might have found a solution to curb this vile habit. And it's a smart decision. Who knew that the answer was simple as- SHAME.

Make people feel shame because putting a fine of bad behaviour is not enough since it doesn't build enough guilt. So, for at least 12 hours a day, Pune is under high scrutiny, and if anyone is caught spitting in a public space, they're fined Rs.100 and made to clean up their mess, right then and there. The police know that is a little much for something like "spitting", but they also know that it's a step that needs to be taken.

Can this be put into effect on other cities? I'd love to see Mumbai become free of fresh gutka stains. Though it'll be difficult considering the huge population that would have to be under surveillance.
