Food delivery apps like Swiggy and Zomato have become really popular because of the ease of ordering they provide and the amazing offer they promote. I'm sure everyone who uses these apps must have come across an offer that is dirt cheap and irresistible. Some of these offers even give you a buy one get one option and this is the main reason why such eateries are doing great business.
I could never resist a good offer I saw on these apps until I came across a place where these meals are prepared. On my way to work one day, while I was walking along the road that leads to Lower Parel Station, Right opposite the huge fish market was a really old apartment building. One of the Gala shops in this building was converted into a kitchen!
What looked like a restaurant at first was only a kitchen because there was no sort of seating arrangements for people. A dozen delivery runners from various apps crowded the main entrance of the shop. After taking a closer look, I found out that this was a kitchen in which cheap meals we see on offers were prepared.
"The floor itself looked really dirty as if a layer of gunk had formed on it over time..."
The front door had a computer system attached to it where orders from these delivery apps came in. The meals were prepared in minutes and shipped to the consumer. It looked more like a production line than an eatery/restaurant!
I was surprised because this was a place I used to order from! While I thought I was ordering food from a restaurant, my meal was being prepared in this dirty little shanty!
"The kitchen was literally a hop away from a fish market which I believe is another health code violation"
After taking a peek inside the kitchen, I saw loads of ingredients used for meal prep in giant metal tubs kept on the floor! The floor itself looked really dirty as if a layer of gunk had formed on it over time because of all the materials being stocked on the floor. This place was known for its cheap wok meals and Asian cooking. Now I know that a lot of Asian cooking has insects as the ingredients, but I didn't want to eat rice that had dozens of flies swarming around it!
The kitchen wass literally a hop away from a fish market which I believe is another health code violation. I was disgusted by the look of the kitchen and that was when I saw a cat casually walk out of the door! I wonder what ingredients the feline had tasted before it was served to customers!
That day I swore to order only from trusted restaurants and stay off these eateries and deals no matter how tempting they look!
