Here Is Why Indian Women Opt For Female Viagra

We live in a country where sex as a topic is still Taboo and yet we have a population of 1.3 billion people! But the part of Sex that we decided to explore is even lesser spoken about and that is Viagra!

In India, we often see ads for 'performance enhancing' or 'energy enhancing' products from men. While these ads try to be subliminal by putting pictures of stallions on the package, we all know that these are products to help a man get an erection aka viagra.

But when it comes to female Viagra, we generally don't see any sort of advertising or even discussions about it. I didn't know that such a thing existed until I saw a viral video on youtube. In the video, a guy pranks his girlfriend by mixing a crushed female viagra pill in her red bull. After a certain time, his girlfriend is really turned on and tries to seduce him! While it was something really funny to watch, it also made me think a lot about this drug and its effects.

So to clear my mind about a same I decided to speak to my family doctor about the same. I asked her about the different types of Stimulative drugs available in our country for females. she says," Women in India are really afraid to talk about sex. But as times are changing, some ladies have opened up and come to me to talk about their sexual experiences. Women in their menopause phase lose their sex drive while at the same age, their partners are going through their mid-life exploration phase. While the males want to experiment and indulge in sexual activities, the females are almost disinterested but at the same time, don't want to disappoint their partners. That is when they turn to Viagra."

While there are a lot of performance enhancing drugs for men, Females have almost no choice. My doctor said, " the only Female sex drive enhancing drug available widely is Flibanserin( commonly known as Addyi). What this does is that it helps women who have a lesser interest or arousal issues by increasing certain hormones in the body. it raises the level of dopamine and norepinephrine in the body and reduces serotonin level. this results in a boost in sexual desire and arousal. "

When we looked up the side effects of this particular drug we found out that in order to satisfy one's sexual needs, the consumer has to sacrifice a lot of factors related to their health. These drugs cause dizziness, insomnia, Nausea, Dry mouth, and in some cases even loss of consciousness! So it's better to consult your doctor about these drugs before giving them a shot.

I decided to dig deeper and spoke to a pharmacist friend of mine and works at a well-known pharmacy store in Mumbai. He says," I hardly see a woman ever come up to me asking for female viagra. Whenever someone gives us a prescription for Addyi, she is mostly in her late 30's or her 40's and it's mostly women from the upper middle class or upper class who even know about these things. It is mostly because the middle class and lower-middle-class women don't think about sex as something that needs to be addressed. We stock a lot of sex-enhancing drugs and products for women such as creams and gels that stimulate women but these products are hardly sold and sit on our shelves for years."

What I feel is that it's going to take a while for women to express their sexuality freely in our society. And it's completely okay for them to take their time and ease into it. However, if women wish to spice up their sex lives with the help of sex enhancing products, they should consult their doctors for further guidance.
