Since the passing of the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, the nation has taken to the streets to protest. From Assam and the rest of the North-East, these demonstrations have travelled to Delhi, Bengaluru, and now the Mumbai protests.
Mumbai's protests were one of the largest collective protests, with reports ranging between 25000-1 lakh people. The Mumbai police received great praise for their peaceful conduct at August Kranti Maidan yesterday. Apart from students and minorities, several celebrities of the attended the protests as well.

The historic venue, formerly known as Gowalia Tank Maidan, was where Gandhi delivered his groundbreaking Quit India speech that led citizens to wake up to the huge Civil Disobedience movement.
Yesterday, it hosted a huge crowd of protesters against the CAA, peacefully yet firmly letting the government know of its stance. August Kranti Maidan was designated as the venue due to the massive turnout predicted.
The ground is one of the only places where such numbers of people could have protested without disrupting day-to-day life.
