All You Need To Know About The Kashmir Crisis Right Now

With all the turmoil that has already upset Kashmir, the government has implemented section 144. And then came the security threat, which made the government deploy around 28,000 troops in the valley. So what exactly is happening?

On July 31st and August 1st, the Indian army killed a few Pakistani Intruders in LoC and with this, talks of abolishing the Section 35A, that grants the state of J&K special status, have been put forward in the parliament. To add on to all the turmoil that already upset Kashmir, the government implemented section 144 due to a security threat. Futhermore, the government deployed around 28,000 troops in the valley and restricted all internet and broadband services. So what exactly is happening?

So let's start simple - what does section 144 impose on Kashmir?

1. In simple words, it restricts the movement of the people living in the valley. So they won't be allowed to go outside their houses and there are certain curfew timings set.

2. They won't be able to hold public meetings or rallies

3. The security is pretty much tightened, so it is advisable that no one tries messing with it.

So what exactly has happened in Kashmir that there's so much chao's? Well, the government hasn’t given any direct information but from news coming from “intelligence inputs” says there are threats being aimed at the pilgrims and tourists in Kashmir. Furthermore, three prominent political leaders in Kashmir Congress leader Usman Majid, CPI(M) MLA M Y Tarigami and former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are put under house arrest. Though, no actual conformity of these arrests have been given out.

The next question to ask would be - is this security threat real? On July 31 and August 1 the Indian Army prevented an attack from Pakistan's BAT on LoC (Line of Control) killing five to seven intruders.

"At least four bodies, possibly of Pakistan Army's Special Service Group (SSG) commandos or terrorists, were seen in close proximity of an Indian post in the sector," the sources had said.

The Indian Army has asked the Pakistan Army to take back the bodies but there has been no response yet, which is worrisome.

The last piece of information, amidst all this chaos and problems in kashmir, you need to know is about the Article 35A. The article that grants the state a special status and furthermore restricts citizens apart from residents of Kashmir to buy property in J&K, has been revoked by the BJP. They also plan to make it a union territory. But this brings up many problems as in the view of legal experts, this is unlawful. Article 35A was issued keeping in mind Article 370 (1) of the constitution.  These two articles are connects the state of J&K and central government have together. And basically if one of them is nullified, this will furnish the Treaty of Accession null and void. The treaty of Accession, 1947 was signed by Maharaja Hari Singh, stating that the free state of J&K joined the union of India and if this treaty is nullified then what is Kashmir’s status? Its all very tricky business.

With all the chaos of the military, the section 144 and the abolition of Article 35A the state of J&K seems be heading for one big turmoil.

“To the people of Kashmir, we don't know what is in store for us but I am a firm believer that what ever Almighty Allah has planned it is always for the better, we may not see it now but we must never doubt his ways. Good luck to everyone, stay safe & above all PLEASE STAY CALM” National Conference leader Abdullah tweeted.
