Sex racket busted
Mumbai has been home to a number of Red Light areas for decades. The Kamathipura area in Mumbai is one of the biggest red light areas in India. Apart from Kamathipura, there are a number of locations in Mumbai where people pick up prostitutes or get some 'roadside assistance.'
In a city, where sex is sold so freely, a lot of budding entrepreneurs decided to tap in on the market but in a classier way. That is when they set up sex rackets such as massage parlours in the city. While these massage parlours seem like legit operations, they secretly offer happy endings to customers.
One such case comes from Mira Road where H2O Spa and Wellness Centre, located in a posh area was exposed. After receiving a tip-off, the Mira Road police along with their counterparts in the Anti Human Trafficking Unit of the Thane police busted the high profile prostitution racket.
A team led by senior inspector Shekhar Dombe and API Devidas Donde on the orders of Assistant SP Atul Kulkarni, sent in a decoy customer to make a deal with the spa operator. Devendra Lingampal, the manager of the shady operation was caught red-handed while accepting money and facilitating the rendezvous.
But according to a resident of this area, this is only one operation that has been busted. Aazad says, "If you travel from the western express highway, there is a whole stretch where both sides of the roads are packed with dance bars. These dance bars also operate as a guise for prostitution but you hardly ever hear of raids on those bars. But it's surprising that this racket was based out of Kanakia because that is one of the most high profile places in Mira Road."
“Action will continue until we flush out all establishments involved in illegal and immoral activities,” said ASP Atul Kulkarni in a statement after a case under section 370 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking act were registered against the accused. The police have also rescued a woman from the clutched of the flesh trade racketeers.
The police now want to hunt down the operator and the owner of the spa, the actual beneficiaries of the flesh trade. The cops had also busted a similar racket operating from De Paradise spa in Kashimira's Penkarpada area.
