There is Black London Taxi Parked in Kamla mills.

the surprise element here were the whiskey gums, these little potent bombs are not in the menu, but it is so the right way of doing shots.

London is rightly famed for its nightlife, top notch food, fancy cocktails, great music, and it’s full of surprises. Here’s a new gastro pub that has brought London to Mumbai  called London Taxi! We’ll tell you if it does justice to London’s vibrant pub culture and the surprises it brings! Here is what we think…

As you reach the outlet your attention is arrested by the restaurant’s exterior- a huge black building right in front of your face and as you open the gates, you are drawn in by the well lit bar. If and when you get the time to stop staring at the bar, stop and try to decipher what the colourful pipes on the ceiling unveil, we’ll give you a hint, its Londons travel system…yup you guessed it right, it the London Underground! Once you finish noticing elements from the well thought out interior (the floor has its own surprise too) browse through their extensive menu that swipes all culinary bounds.

With the pre-notion of a gastro pub, food at London Taxi takes you by surprise with Michelin styled food served to your table. We started with the juicy watermelon feta salad, a circular piece of watermelon dressed with olive tuile balsamic, topped with orange wedges, and edible micro greens and flowers, with a soothing surprise of feta mousse that oozes out as you slice the watermelon. The Moroccan Fish tikka redefines the way fish was ever consumed. Ricotta and spicy tomato bonda are lighter than air and just melts in your mouth. These are soft pockets of loveliness which make you feel virtuous and clever for having decided to order them. The menu flaunts the skills of the chef who previously worked at a Michelin Star Restaurant and its visible in every dish. Try the Truffle Scented Dark Chocolate Caramelized Cauliflower Veloute, and it will be difficult to consume regular soups thereafter. With healthy Salted foxnut replacing the unfriendly cheese bits, the menu flaunts ample bar nibbles and appetisers so much so that reaching the mains is a task. Head there for lunch and choose from the variety of curries, our favourite the, Malaysian seafood bowl a coconut curry with a punch of kokum over a bed of lemongrass rice is full of flavour. We didn’t try the dessert but I am sure the Dhaval (partner), taking care of the hospitality on the ground can help you with that.

London Taxi justifies its sense of London through its crisp cocktails. There is Sherlock In A Pickle which shows their proficiency, English Breakfast thats is served in a tea pot with poached egg (cream and mango) on the side and the surprise element here were the whiskey gums, these little potent bombs are not in the menu, but it is so the right way of doing shots.

Its almost impolite to care more about the drink and the less about the bartender at London Taxi. As keeping to London spirits, heading the bar counter is talented and beautiful Ami Shroff and her trained staff. Girls behind the bar is not a sight that you get to see much even in a city like Mumbai (WHY??) and this gastro pub definitely gets its heartbeat with Ami behind the Bar. The rose shrub infused sparkling wine speaks for her work. And her mixology is not even the surprise element. Not only Ami is great mixologist but she is an astute performer. Head their on a Friday evening and wait till she plays with fire or picks the Fushigi ball, its like a scene from covent garden, where lip smacking food just enhances the flavour of extraordinary performance.

A meal for two will cost you around INR5000 and for a ride in London Taxi thats pretty cool, isn’t it?
