Article 370: Another Excuse For Misogyny For The Country

After the scrapping of Article 370, men are now eyeing Kashmiri women.

When Amit Shah announced that Article 370 which gave special status to the state of Jammu & Kashmir has been scrapped, the country was in two minds. While some celebrated, others were shaken.

The fact that Indians can now buy land in Kashmir has made many people happy. But while they eye the land, some people have their eyes on something else.

Kashmiri women.

While the people of Kashmir stay clouded in the dark, Indian men all over the country were enthralled to learn that Kashmiri women were now "available" to them. In a swarm of #Article370 videos on Tik Tok, men celebrated the availibility of these women.

In a video on Tik Tok, three men discuss the benefits of removing Article 370. One of them comments that our flag will finally be waved in Kashmir, the second states “Jammu Kashmir ki lugai milegi humein” (we will get a wife from Jammu Kashmir). And the last third man asserts that Kashmir will now be called Kashi and all three chant “Vande Mataram.”

In what seems like a dystopian nightmare, these men are only concerned with their ability to finally get their hands on Kashmiri women and land. The two most important factors for men in the country.

Not only was Tik Tok full of this mysoginistic approach to the scrapping, but Twitter users had a similar sentiment.

"Swipe right to find kashmiri girls/boys on tinder with marriage proposal.. #Article370" one user tweeted.

"I have started getting marriage alliances from Kashmiri girls in DM, thank you Modi ji #370gaya" another user had to say.

As per Google Trends, after the scrapping of Article 370, men in India are now looking for Kashmiri land and women.

Irrespective of the situation, Indian men seem to objectify women mercilessly. In what can only be described as a fascist uprising, these men only reflect on everything that is wrong in the country.
