If you’re in Karnataka and you happen to love hard booze, you might wanna sit down for this news. Hard liquor such as vodka, whisky and rum will cost you more due to an additional 4% excise duty proposed by Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy.
This had happened in April as well, but that one being an 8% hike, the total now adds up to a devastating 12% for the year 2018-19. The rise in fuel prices is not helping either.
Manu Chandra, restaurateur and head of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) Bengaluru chapter, said, “Liquor is the soft target in every budget. Overpolicing is making it difficult for restaurateurs to sustain. From new rules like not being permitted to play music at eateries, fire-safety clearances, and challenging licences – woes just add on.”
This is just one of the blows that the F&B industry has received in the recent past, counting procuring new entertainment licences, submitting occupational certificates and fire-safety clearances. So if you plan on going out for drinks anytime soon, you might wanna stick to a just glass of wine.
