Bombay Canteen is the #1 Restaurant in India

They just won the best restaurant award!

What do you think of when I say “THE BEST RESTAURANT”? Smooth white plates, Pin drop silence inside the restaurant and chandeliers?
Now, what if I said- banana leaf plates, brass cups and home-style food? India, right?

Now combine both of them and you get ##HIGHLIGHTEDTEXT##- The winner of the CN Travellers Best Restaurant of the Year Award.

Bombay Canteen had been part of the top 50 of the Best restaurants last year. But this year the competition was fierce. As many as 19 restaurants from last year were edged off the list by newer entries from across India. Mumbai had the most restaurants this time (14), followed by Delhi and Goa (10 each). Significantly, Indian cuisine came up as the hero of the year.

Not only did Bombay Canteen win an award, Chef Thomas Zacharias was also awarded the Himalayan Sparkling Raw and Fine Chef of the Year, for championing ingredient-driven cuisine.

For anyone who doesn’t follow Chef Thomas Zacharias (@cheftzac) on Instagram, let me tell you, he’s one of the most involved chefs in India right now. He doesn’t just flaunt the impeccable food that he makes but also educates people about ingredients that are in season and what things one shouldn’t buy. He also goes to the source of every dish and learns it from scratch before building a dish from it for the restaurant. It is really admirable.

The food at Bombay Canteen strikes the perfect balance between traditional and experimental without overdoing it. Everything they put on their plates belongs there and that’s brilliant because all you ever want to have is a “lick the plate clean” type of meal.

Not to mention their warm and welcoming staff who make sure your dining experience is nothing less than what you expected.
