From 'candyologists' being required by a Canadian Company to the opening for India's first Igloo cafe in Kashmir, these are the news headlines of the week.

‘Candyologists’ required by a Canadian candy company

Almost every child has had an unhealthy obsession with candy at some point and dreamt to have a job where they’d taste candy the whole day. Well, this candy company is set to make all those children’s dreams come true. Candy Funhouse, an Ontario based online candy store, is seeking to hire full time and part-time candy and chocolate tasters. In a blog post, they announced that the position would offer 47$ an hour to participate in taste-testing and reviewing around 3000 candies and chocolate’s made by the company. They also mention how the position seeks candidates “enthusiasm and eagerness to try confectionery products” and urges them to apply for the job by February 15. One of the mains perks (apart from tasting all the chocolate and the candy) is that the selected candidate will ‘play an integral role in selecting the candies that will be a part of the first-ever Candy Funhouse branded candy line’.

Police raid a party full of ‘cardboard people’

With the new strain, if coronavirus going around, London has imposed lockdown once again which means, no house parties for anyone. However, London police received a call by a man complaining to them about a house party taking place nearby. When they reached the scene, the situation turned out to be rather different. The ‘house party’ that was reported by neighbours actually turned out to be a Zoom birthday party organised by a rich socialite for his wife. What passer-by’s thought were people were actually cardboard cut-out’s made to resemble people. Steve Varsano, the 64-year-old socialite, wanted to something ‘cool’ for his wife’s birthday and hence organised this zoom birthday party for her. Since their guests couldn't grace the party physically, Varsano ordered 70 life-size cardboard cutouts of friends and placed them around the room while they took part virtually. Varsanao also said that he went to extreme limits to adhere to the coronavirus guidelines set by the health experts and the police was in fact "surprised that there were no people that they could issue a fine to"

The Bernie Sanders’ mittens meme is set to raise money for charity

Unless you have been living under a rick, you must've come across the hilarious Bernie Sanders meme which was taken at Biden’s inauguration. While the meme has taken social media by storm, it has also been turned into porn! On a slightly more positive note, the meme is now being used to raise money for a charity. The iconic picture of the senator sitting on a chair at The Capitol, wearing his jacket and mittens is now being put on sweatshirts, along with other merchandise, with the slogan ‘Chariman Sanders’. After a record sale of selling out within days in almost every size, the senator's office announces that the sale resulted in the collection of around $1.8 Million! Sanders and his wife Jane also released statements saying that these proceeds would be going towards their ‘home state charities including local Meals on Wheels group, local senior centres, the Vermont Parent Child Network and others.’ He also added “We’re glad we can use my internet fame to help Vermonters in need. But even this amount of money is no substitute for action by Congress, and I will be doing everything I can in Washington to make sure working people in Vermont and across the country get the relief they need in the middle of the worst crisis we’ve faced since the Great Depression.”

Delhi Govt. to build public toilets for trans community members

In a much-needed move, The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to set up public washrooms for the transgender community. Ever since the Supreme Court had recognised transgenders as a third gender, they had officially ordered the Centre and the state to build separate washrooms for their use. However, till today no such initiative was seen. The toilet at Shastri Bhavan, which is still under construction, would be the first-ever exclusive toilet for the transgender community in Delhi. In its annual budget 2021-2022, a senior NDMC official said that the construction of toilets will take place in busy marketplaces. Mysuru, followed by Bhopal are the first two cities in India to have exclusive toilets for this community.

‘Harry Potter’ TV series in the works for HBO Max

This news is for all the Potterheads out there, the streaming platforms HBO Max is set out to launch a live-action TV series based on the best selling Harry Potter novels by J.K Rowling. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the project is still in nascent stages and the streaming platforms is currently still looking for writers to help bring the loved novel to the small screen. While we are all already excited about seeing the beloved characters once again on screen, the deal is in its very early stages. Here’s to hoping that we soon get to see our favourite characters on the screen soon.

For all those people who love the snow and don't mind the temperatures to drop below minus, Kashmir has opened it’s first-ever Igloo Cafe! The Kolahoi Ski resort in Gulmarg has been trending on social media for opening its igloo cafe which would feature tables made of ice and snow with hot and delicious food being served to customers. This cafe is around 16 feet high and 26 feet round and has taken inspiration from Arctic shelters while adding a few touches of its own. Sporting arched doorways and patterns on the wall, this cafe has 4 tables which could seat around 16 guests. Certainly interesting and captivating, this new concept has created FOMO for everyone who has seen it on social media.

Turkmenistan president announces a national holiday to celebrate local dog breed

Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, Turkmenistan’s president, has announced a national holiday in celebration of his favourite local dog breed. The holiday is aimed at praising the Alabai, which is the Central Asian shepherd dog. In fact, the present has even written a book and a song dedicated to the beloved breed and presented it to Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, with a puppy in 2017! Last year, in November, he unveiled a 19 ft gold statue of the dog breed in the capital city of Ashgabat. As per reports, ‘the golden statue is mounted on a pedestal and it has a wraparound LED display screen that shows footage of real Alabais.’ The status unveiling video from the ceremony quickly when viral on social media.
