Church of Cyprus bishop Neophytos Masouras of Morphou made this outrageous claim in June while speaking at a primary school in Akaki, Cyprus.
We can thank the Bishop for allowing us to finally understand the biological aspects of homosexuality, which even scientists have been puzzled by for years. It is a truly groundbreaking discovery, backed with research and scientific data. And while the Bishop was at it, he also found a cure!
Stop having anal sex, pregnant ladies! Or, have anal sex and stop enjoying it. Those are your only two options, really, according to the Bishop. The bishop said that when the woman enjoys anal sex, “a desire is created, which is then transmitted to the unborn child.” So if you’re not pregnant, and don’t enjoy anal sex, you’re free to do it!
Now, you may think that this is a rather strange explanation for homosexual kids, but it really isn’t. Think about it. Kids are vulnerable, and they’ll listen to anything you say and learn anything they see, so it only makes sense that a child in the womb will be twice as impressionable. It all adds up.
But, if this is how gay kids come into the world, how would the bishop explain lesbianism?
Does the mother cheat with a woman? Or do lesbians just not exist in the bishop’s world? He seems to have no comments about this, for good reason – no research work just yet. It did take him years of study to come up with an explanation for gay children, so maybe we should just wait a few years.
As ridiculous as the Bishops claims were, most people took them in the right spirit – humor. People were commenting on the video of the bishop with all sorts of concerns and logical fallacies to be rectified. One of these comments was - "So, father, if the woman does oral, will the child become a dentist?" And we’re patiently waiting for an answer.
Though these jabs and jokes were certainly lightening up the situation, people were also deeply taken aback by these claims. Though Cyprus decriminalized homosexuality in 1998, with constant efforts to walk away from conservative views, the Church and society at large still cling on to the orthodox views they hold.
One of the comments on the video was – “The problem is not this ignoramus, the tragic problem is that there are thousands who believe him.” Which is, unfortunately, true, the fact that people take his word because of the position he holds is truly saddening.
The case to fight towards a more liberal and unorthodox only gets stronger by the day when public figures such as the bishop continue to spread the unfair conventional ideas from decades ago.
