Looking for a job? Google now helps you!

With the onset of the coronavirus outbreak last year, several countries started to establish strict lockdown regulations. With the lock down came a substantial halt in the economy owing to the social distancing protocol that required the general population to stay quarantined at home. Several companies suffered heavy financial losses and were compelled to lay off large portions of its workforce. Lakhs of workers have unfortunately lost their jobs. New job seekers or freshers, mostly including graduates of 2020, have found that the availability of entry level jobs is especially nominal this year. The employment rate in India took a major hit due to the global pandemic.

According to a latest report released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, 5 million salaried workers lost their jobs in July, while a total of 18.9 million remunerative jobs have been lost since the inception of the lock down in the country. With the lakhs of unemployed job seekers desperately engrossed in a search for relevant jobs across various recruiting websites and applications, tech giant Google has extended a helping hand to alleviate the job search. The Kormo Jobs app was initially introduced in India on the Google Pay platform under the ‘jobs spot' category to assist the millions in India looking to secure entry level roles in already established brand jobs as well as opportunities in emerging markets. The search giant launched a separate app to raise the quotient of employment opportunities in India.

The Kormo Jobs app was originally piloted in 2018 in Bangladesh and then expanded its reach to Indonesia last year. In its blog, Google mentions that over 2 million verified jobs have been posted on the platform. The jobs app is recruiting based on a job matching algorithm that is effective in finding candidates with the required skills, experience and location preferences. This platform is beneficial to both, job seekers and businesses of all sizes in multiple markets, yielding suitable workers and jobs respectively. "In the wake of the pandemic, the jobs landscape stands altered, with demand shifting to new services that require different sets of skills and experience. Businesses of all sizes face the challenges of the new normal, while job seekers are having to adapt to this shift quickly. We are heartened to be able to play a helpful role in facilitating connections to impact lives for the better, including introducing important features like remote interviewing earlier this year to ensure social distancing", said the regional manager and operations lead at Kormo Jobs, Bickey Russell. In the same blog, he also claimed that the company will continue to invest in bringing new features and jobs to the app in the future.

Google is re-branding the Jobs Spot on Google Pay as Kormo Jobs in India and also making its standalone Android app available in one of its key overseas markets, India. Employers like Zomato and Dunzo have found pertinent candidates with help of this jobs matching algorithm of Kormo Jobs. The app is conveniently available for all Android users which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. The description on the app store specifies that the app specialises in Retail, Logistics, Hospitality and Services and offers jobs such as retail sales associate, delivery and warehouse operations, and customer service representative. It facilitates a guided experience through to the very job interviews. The app is designed to furnish you with personalised job recommendations from verified employers based on your interests, skills, qualifications and preferred location. It also provides you a feature of creating and downloading a free digital resume or CV which can be used to directly apply and schedule interviews in just a few clicks. Be it remote work or in office jobs, they are all readily available. It also offers the real time tracking and fast updates on your job applications that keeps the ongoing process in the spotlight. They provide new skilling content that you can learn from and add them as notable skills on your resume.

Another significant announcement made by Google in recent times, is that they have joined hands with the Maharashtra government to provide its digital classroom services which would impact over 1 lakh schools that approximately insure about 1.23 crore students and teachers. They have committed to investing $10 billion to step up the adoption of digital services by 2027. Under this collaboration, Maharashtra becomes the first state in the country to launch online learning using tools like G Suite for Education, Google Classroom, Google Meet and others, for the students currently engaged in online studies, in accordance with the lock down. It is worth noting that this launch comes at such a crucial time when the majority of organisations and companies that have been impacted due to the pandemic, are resorting to myriad layoffs to conserve capital.

The Kormo Jobs app shows promising signs of accelerating the employment rate in the country, providing jobs for one and all. With the country implementing its ‘Unlock’ guidelines in gradual phases, more number of job opportunities are springing up. You can learn more about the app by following their Facebook page.
