You think you’ve seen it all but all you have to do is refresh your Instagram page to be surprised, once more. After the Unicorn frappe, the next magical thing you can have is the Mermaid Food. You can find plenty of pictures of the same on Instagram and Pinterest, where there are more than a handful of users losing their tails over this!
The main attraction towards Mermaid Food is how insanely pretty it is. No, seriously. This aesthetically pleasing dish is blue-green, and will brighten up your Instagram feed before you can say ‘Swim!’ The color can be attributed to Spirulina, a powder made from dried algae that are found at health food stores. Most people use this tpowder to make smoothies and smoothie bowls.
The second best thing about mermaid food is how healthy it is, despite the color making it seem otherwise. Spirulina is considered a superfood and is a good source of protein, iron, and B vitamins. Since it’s a comparatively new superfood though, there isn’t any scientific proof to back its supposed benefits, but we’re hoping this will change soon. Scientists, refresh your Instagram pages and pay attention here!
There are a few variants of this dish. The unique Mermaid Toast, for example, can be credited to food stylist Adeline Waugh who uses blue-green algae powders mixed with almond-milk cream cheese to achieve the picturesque turquoise hues of the water.
We don’t know about you, but we’re definitely swimming towards this trend!
