We aren't unfamiliar to the text - "what are you wearing" that leads to an orgasm sometimes. But sexting can get awkward and even boring sometimes - and other times, it's just a way to pass the time when there's really nothing else to do.

And while sexting is seen as a huge deal, for the people who participate in it, really don't think so. And while we speculate on the pleasures or downfalls of sexting - some people who participate in the act tell us what their experiences have been.

"The whole thing makes me cringe ever so slightly, putting it into simple words - I feel like I'm writing smut fanfic." Sara, 19 said.

But Mariam,19 says otherwise - "At first, I really didn't understand all the hype around it, but damn if it's done right, it's amazing honestly, and when you're in a long-distance relationship - its the best." she said.

Ashish shared one of his worst experiences with sexting - "Imagine sexting your girl in 8th grade, and your mom snoops on your phone. It was embarrassing - but she only ended up reading the girls side of the conversation - and then judged her terribly, considering they were both catholic (my ex and mom) - but I didn't let my then-girlfriend know about it. But it was so embarrassing."

Oof, if my mom ever read any sexts I have sent - she would probably sell me to Satan happily.

"Dude it's such a great time buster. I don't feel anything while sexting, honestly - it's the most boring thing ever. Looking at a badly angled picture of your weenie isn't going to turn me on, but it sure as hell passes the time. I'm usually watching Netflix or something when I sext - it's fun to see the other person so invested because it's great when your partner gets off to you - but also, I just don't feel anything. I do it for my partner and to while away some time." Ria, 20 said.

It's a common phenomenon that women seem to view sexting as a chore more than something fun or sexual - according to a survey. They would rather just have sex in person - as we are meant to. Another issue is privacy, which seems shady on the internet cloud. Women are less likely to enjoy sexting, but they do engage for the benefit of their partner.

"I love sexting. I used to read a lot of smut fanfiction, and other erotic novels - so words really do turn me on. The thought that the person on the other end is thinking of doing all these sexual things to you is very exciting. Also, the creative and imaginative space it gives is great - things we can't actually do in person, make their way into these conversations and the thought turns me on. Nudes always add to the effect, I'm always up for a sexting session with my partner." Aditi, 24.

Adding to the same effect, Vibhor says - "I love sexting man, it's really comfortable. You can have some elements of reality while still being creative. And it's easier to move past all the awkwardness and uncomfortableness. Plus you can take flattering photos with the right angles and not worry about any judgment about your body. Nudes are such a turn on - someone is putting in time and effort into turning you on and pleasing you - it's exciting!"

Women are not as visual as men are, which is why sexting may be a downer for them. But, it does please some. While most people think it's just a time buster - others indulge entirely. But everyone has their own choice, so I guess sexting may just be one of those things that can never have conclusive yes or no answer.
