Chinese Tycoon, Jack Ma, has not been seen since October 2020
Co-founder of Alibaba and Ant-group, Jack Ma, has not made a single public appearance since October. The Chinese billionaire had a falling out with the Chinese government when he made a controversial speech about the government and its president Xi Jinping. Following the speech, enquires were made regarding his company and he was ordered to ‘scale back his operations’. His last public appearance was a live streamed event for an opening ceremony of the annual Chinese shopping event which was on October 31st. He did not even appear as a judge for the final episode of entrepreneurial game show Africa’s Business Heroes. In fact, he was even warned in December to not make any attempts to leave the country. Many have linked this disappearance to China’s ‘anti-trust’ probe into people and companies that make statements against the governments and its leaders. According to Bloomberg Billionaire Index, he appears to have lost around 11 billion Dollars in the past 3 months !
FSSAI to reduce trans-fat levels in food from 5% to 3%
The signature taste of fast food comes from it’s trans fat levels which are known to have disastrous negative effects on our health. With the current permissible level of trans fat being 5% , India’s top food regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has finally reduced it to 3%. The FSSAI draft reads - “India is committed to the elimination of industrial trans fats in fats/oils, and in foods containing fats/oils in a phased manner. The trans fat content in fats and oils has already been limited to 5%, and the notification to further reduce it to 3% by 2021, and to 2% by 2022 is under process. The regulation is also being extended to food products having fats or oils”.
Even the Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, launched the “Trans Fat Free” campaign which would be showcased in all restaurants and food manufacturers that use trans-fat free fats or oils, which do not have industrial trans fats more than 0.2g/100g of the food.

Back in 2019, the WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange was arrested by the US Government under charges of disclosing a series of leaks provided by the US Army Intelligence over documents related to Baghdad, Iraq and the Afghanistan War. Since then he has been under the custody of the UK Government. However, US had recently requested his extradition to America , which the UK rejected on January 4th. The judge commented that Julian was ‘depressed and sometimes despairing man, who is genuinely fearful about his future. I find that Mr. Assange's risk of committing suicide, if an extradition order were to be made, to be substantial.’ Assange’s fiancé as well as the general public were in favour of this decision as US’s intentions with him were unclear.
According to Bharat Biotech, the ‘Covaxin is 200% safe’
While India awaits the arrival of the much awaited COVID 19 vaccine, the emergency use approval to the indigenous coronavirus vaccine, Covaxin was met with much suspicion by the public. Many questions were raised since the company had not released any data that would give us an idea regarding Covaxin’s efficacy or safety. However the company responded to these allegations by making a statement saying that the guidelines put forth by the national drug regulator Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation state that ‘ if it is a proven and safe platform technology and good preclinical trial data is available then you can get an emergency license for the product’. Even Bharat Biotech’s MD released statements saying that it is ‘200% safe’.
Fortune Oil advertisements that feature Sourav Ganguly have been put on a halt
Former India captain and BCCI president , Sourav Ganguly, suffered a mild heart attack 3 days ago. Since the news of this incident broke out, Adani Wilmar has halted all Fortune Rice Bran cooking oil television commercials featuring him. The decision comes after the group received a lot of backlash on social media who ridiculed the company for claiming that it’s oil is healthy for the heart while it’s brand ambassador suffered a heart attack. However, Adani Wilmar not only defended the oil saying that it is the healthiest for the heart but also commented that it would be working with Ganguly in the future.

Assam government to give financial incentive as well as scooters to girl students
Under the Pragyan Bharti Scheme, the Assam government has already begun the process to provide 22,000 scooters to meritous girl students who pass their 12th board examinations in 1st division. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal believes in the cause of empowering young girls to chase their dreams by excelling in their education.
The government also has plans to provide financial incentives of INR 100 -200 to school and college students so that they would regularly attend their classes. State education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that apart from giving girl students these financial incentives, the government would also deposited INR 1500 and 2000 respectively for undergraduate and graduate students.
4 Indian states report cases of Bird Flu
States of Himachal Pradesh, Kerela, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana have seen the death of thousands of birds due to various variants of the bird flu. This incident prompted the centre to issue warnings to the state to take precautionary measures monitor their health in forest areas and near water bodies. On Wednesday, The Union ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying, stated the cause of this breakout could be the arrival of the migratory birds in North, South and Central India. They also stated “In India, the disease spreads mainly by migratory birds coming into India during winter months i.e. from September-October to February-March. The secondary spread by human handling (through fomites) cannot be ruled out”. 2 Kerela districts, Alappuzha and Kottayam and 1 Rajasthani District , Jhanwar have been placed on high alert due to the confirmed cases of bird flu in ducks, crows and other migratory birds. In response to this, the Delhi zoo will be shutting down and around 50,000 birds would be culled in Kerela.
