Pronounciation Wars have been on for quite some time with some of our favourite foodstuffs from world over. However, are you still dazed about this particular one? In case you were still wondering if it was Nut-ella or New-tell-uh, the company behind the world’s favourite hazelnut chocolate spread had cleared the debate a long time ago. Quite certain that they weren’t trying to create a ‘common worldwide pronunciation’ of their product, Ferrero revealed that that the spread must be pronounced new-tell-uh, albeit for its US consumers.
On the frequently asked questions page of their US site, the company provides a description of their product as: “Nutella (pronounced ‘new-tell-uh’) is a tasty, unique spread made from the combination of roasted hazelnuts, skim milk and a hint of cocoa.”

But when BuzzFeed probed the chocolate spread giant on the how to pronounce it right wars, the company reassured people that it doesn’t want everyone to call Nutella ‘new-tell-uh’. The company said they don’t want a common pronunciation on this one across the world, but stressed that New-tell-uh was just the US pronunciation and it is in the UK, that consumers would continue to call it ‘Nutella’.
