Here's What You Need To Remember!

“Bhagwan ko maante ho? Bhagwaan ko lu*d farak padta hai.” (Do you believe in God? He doesn't give a damn about it.)

The pilot episode of the Sacred Games sets the basic stories for each of the characters.

Sartaj Singh, played by Saif Ali Khan, is a troubled policeman who receives a call from Ganesh Gaitonde. Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is the biggest gangster in Mumbai who hasn't surfaced in over 20 years. He urges Sartaj to save the city, which is destined to be doomed in 25 days. He also says - " “Sab mar jayenge, sirf Trivedi bach jayega.”

After tapping the call, Sartaj looks for Gaitonde but, when he does find him, Gaitonde shoots himself in the head.

We see some key story lines in the first episode itself. In the first scene a dog is seen falling off a building, later we see actress Zoya Mirza (Elnaaz Norouzi) and her world. We also see Gaintonde shooting Jojo Mascarenas (Surveen Chawla), after she tells him that she knew he was being taken for a ride for a while. We also learn that Jojo runs a casting agency and is a pimp for some of her female actresses. One of her clients is Gaintonde and his men.

We then see Gaitonde's backstory. His father was a Pundit and his mother was claimed to be a prostitute, who would bring other men home when his father was out begging for money. This becomes the root cause of Gaitonde’s bullying and frustrated by it, he kills his mother and her lover with a huge rock as a child.

He then escapes to Mumbai and begins working at a Hindu restaurant. He finds a friend in peddler Mathu and together, the two enter start a bootleg alcohol business.

Gaitonde goes from making bootleg alcohol at the restaurant with Mathu to gold smuggling with Salim Kaka as he slowly builds an empire for himself. He runs into Kanta Bai at the restaurant, who also helps him run his business of bootleg liquor.

She teaches him about the politics of the garbage mafia. He learns from her that a man named Momin is the one in charge, who sells it to earn a lot of money. Momin and him get into a tiff and Gaitonde then buys 10 of Momin’s garbage plots and sets them on fire. In the same fire, Momin is burnt alive and Gaitonde establishes himself as the new don of Kailashwada.

After seeing this glimpse, we are introduced to Anjali Mathur (Radhika Apte), the RAW agent who learns about Gaitonde's death and jumps on the case.

In the third episode we are introduced to Kukoo, Suleiman Isa and Bunty. Kukoo is the love interest of Gaitonde, who is involved with Isa. Gaitonde's jealousy towards Isa then leads to a scene where he overpowers Isa and wins over Kukoo.

We see Gaitonde's gang - Bunty, Bada Badariya and Chhota Badariya. Gaitonde believes that his gang is barred of no religion. But, Bunty is a Hindu bigot who does not want to work with the two Muslim brothers.

Bunty then convinces Gaitonde to join politics after he is offered to be paid Rs 50 lakh to do so by Bipin Bhosale.

This is where he meets politician Bipin Bhosale, who later becomes the Home Minister, and Trivedi, who is at the root of the doom that lies ahead for Mumbai as well as DCP Parulkar.

Paritosh Shah acts as a manager for Gaitonde when he enters politics.

Kukoo and Gaitonde’s romance flourishes, and we later learn that she is transgender. But that doesn't change his mind at all. Around the same time, Isa and his men attack Gaitonde in his house and in the process, Kukoo is killed.

Gaitonde then decides to tie the knot to his maid Subhadra. At the wedding Paritosh Bhai and his wife are assassinated by Isa’s men. Isa’s men attack Gaitonde as well, and Subhadra is killed while Bunty is left handicapped.

In his sorrow and anger, Gaitonde blames the death of his ‘Mota Bhai’ on Bunty, because he is caught with a woman at the time that he should’ve been bringing them to the wedding.

“Subhadra ko maarke Isa ne apun ke andar ka Hindu jaga diya.” (By killing Subhadra, Isa woke up the Hindu inside me.)

Gaitonde loses his mind and kills about 80 muslims. He is jailed for it and is tortured we also see Parulkar has switched sides. Unlike all the others who ill-treat Gaitonde, Dilbagh Singh, Sartaj’s father, treats him well.

Slowly, he realizes that the person behind his torture is not Isa but Parulkar, Bipin Bhosale and Trivedi who he was close to. However, Isa’s men were still attacking Gaitonde in jail and so he plots against them.

Dilbagh Singh tries to help him out whenever possible and even introduces him to Guruji, Gaitonde’s third father. When he is freed, Mathu and Gaitonde are beaten up by Isa’s men, but they are saved by Guruji.

Sartaj and Katekar are investigating a case, where a bunch of boys beat up an elderly couple and robbed them. But in that confrontation, one of the boys slashes Katekar’s neck and he doesn't survive the injuries.

In the mean time, Anjali (Radhika Apte) finds out that wheel-chair bound Bunty is involved in a scam that takes water tankers and fills them with something else. Bunty decides to meet her and give her the information about the water tanks but in return, he wants to be sent away to Singapore.

Nayanika, an actress, is captured by Bunty. She convinces Kanta Bai to call Sartaj and ask him to rescue her. Sartaj locates Nayanika and Bunty and confronts him.

Anjali at the same time is going to meet Bunty. When she gets there, she asks him to leave, but before he can react, the police force beings shooting. In the bloodshed, Nayanika is shot, while Bunty tries to flee.

But before he gets too far, he is assassinated by Gaitonde’s men and then crushed by a truck. Anjali discovers that one of the witnesses to Bunty’s murder was poisoned in the hospital.

She finds out that a man called Malcolm (Luke Kenny) is the one behind the witness’ killing, but she isn’t taken seriously and so she takes matters in her own hands.

At the same time, Sartaj contacts Zoya about her link with Jojo the pimp. She doesn’t tell Sartaj much about Gaitonde, except that he gave her a little money. But she does mention Trivedi and that the two worked together for an NGO.

Anjali and Sartaj decide to probe into this further. They interrogate someone in the IFS about the suspicious tanker. They then track down the train with the water but come across some goons.

Anjali holds them at gunpoint and Sartaj hops on the train. The RAW agent then visits Trivedi’s office again to find more information. But over there, she is shot in the head by Malcolm.

Sartaj is on a train but before he can discover anything more about the train, he is caught by a goon, who brings him to Malcolm.

Malcolm chops off Sartaj’s thumb with an axe. Despite the pain,he asks about Gaitonde’s connection to Malcolm, who says that the mobster had betrayed his cause. Malcolm also then talks about hitting the reset button to cleanse humanity.

Sartaj tries to escape his bonds, but Malcolm puts the same axe in Sartaj’s back and runs away. But Sartaj still finds a massive warehouse full of military-grade guns that might be used to promote the communal violence in the country. This is where the police force then find him.

There are 13 days left and and Sartaj has no lead. He visits his mother’s house for dinner, where the TV is playing on the screen is Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi), who mentions the concept of Yayati, in which every father must sacrifice a son.

He also sees the Mandala patterns across the screen and Sartaj runs back to Gaitonde’s house where he has seen the symbol before. He drills the tile with the Mandala and discovers a bunker like room hidden there. In the room, Trivedi is unconscious and tied to a chair, this is how Trivedi would survive a nuclear attack planned to take place on the city.
