Sativa Vs Indica: Understanding different strains of Marijuana

The Devil's lettuce is now becoming as common as regular lettuce!

In a city like Mumbai, smoking up has become a very common activity. To make you understand the scale of how common it is, there is someone smoking up in an apartment in literally every housing complex in the city.

The people of Mumbai are slowly shifting towards Marijuana and are laying off chemical drugs. Despite the number of Marijuana smokers being so high, not a lot of people have in-depth knowledge about what they are smoking.

And that is why I decided to speak to a stoner friend of mine who is kind of an expert on weed. Now I'm no Narc so I'm not going to rat him out by using his real name. He gave me an insight into the two main strains of Marijuana.

The first strain we spoke about was Cannabis Sativa. This particular type of plant grows tall and thin and has narrow leaves. The leaves are lighter in colour. This kind of a strain takes more time to grow and needs more light. They have a lower CBD count but have a high THC count.

On the other hand, we have Cannabis Indica. These plants are short and bushy and also have a higher yield. They grow pretty fast and have darker leaves. These plants have a low THC count and a higher CBD count.

Apart from the way these plants look, the main difference between the two is the effect that they have on the human mind. Cannabis Sativa is known to have properties that are anti-anxiety, anti-depressant and treat chronic pain. Sativa also increases focus and creativity.

Cannabis Indica, on the other hand, gives you increased mental relaxation, muscle relaxation, decreases nausea and increases appetite. Indica also increases dopamine and basically slows you down.

The expert I was consulting on this also told me about hybrid strains. With the help of advanced horticulture, people have developed strains that have properties of both Sativa and Indica. And there are hundreds of strains that are designed to give you a certain kind of high!

While I couldn't really see a major difference in the two highs, I consulted another friend of mine who gave me the best possible explanation for it.
He said, "You smoke Sativa when you want to work. And you smoke Indica when you want to sleep."
