Say Adios To "Superwoman" As Lilly Singh Lets The Iconic Name Go

Iconic YouTube star Lilly Singh has decided to let go of her famous "Superwoman" tag. Find out why!

Lilly Singh, or Superwoman as she is famously called, has been a part of every millennial’s childhood. She’s one of the most relatable Youtubers out there, who has never shied away from doing what she feels is right.

Her growth from a simple YouTube who uploaded comedy sketches from the confines of her room in Canada to becoming the first woman to lead a late-night show on a broadcast network in the US has been nothing short of extraordinary. From authoring a book, working as a motivational speaker and even acting in motion pictures, she’s done it all, all on her own.

However, her claim to fame will always be her YouTube channel, which shot her to stardom. With over 14 million YouTube subscribers and over 700 videos, she is one of the most famous personalities on YouTube. Her iconic “Superwoman” introduction, which has been going on for a better part of 9 years, is something loved by her fans worldwide.

It was therefore even more surprising when an Instagram post made by her last week contained a very important announcement. It said that she had decided to let go of her iconic stage name or in her words “Lay the cape of Superwoman to rest”

The post also revealed the story behind the iconic username, which had always been a mystery. In her post, Lilly said 'When prompted to choose a username I instinctively typed Superwoman because it had been my MSN messenger screen name (shoutouts millennials). Based on a song by Lil Mo and Fabulous, I used to call myself Superwoman growing up because like any kid I wanted so badly to deal with life’s obstacles like a hero."

While Lilly Singh did not give a specific reason as to why she decided to let go of something that made her a household name on the web in the first place. It can be speculated that her new stint as a late-night show host could be the reason that tipped her to make such a move. The show is titled “A Little Late With Lilly”, which may eventually be the reason why the famous YouTube wants to be known more by that name from now on.

Elaborating on her decision to lay to rest “Superwoman”, Lilly wrote “Lilly has become an even bigger hero than Superwoman on this journey through my life. Lilly encompasses everything it took to get to where I am… and it’s a place I’m proud to be. And so at this time, it feels right to give thanks to the moniker Superwoman and to lay the cape to rest. Today my biggest and best superpowers lay within Lilly and thus Lilly I shall be,” she wrote.

It is certainly an exciting time for the star, as she begins a new journey as a talk show host. Lilly Singh has shown countless times how to break the barriers and chart new grounds, acting as an inspiration for millions. However, the announcement is both a happy and sad moment for fans though. Happy as their favourite Youtuber starts a new journey. Sad, because they may have heard the iconic "It's your girl, Superwoman" for the last time.
