Swiggy Goes Green: The Food Delivery App Announces Using Electric Vehicles For Food Delivery

Now your food will be delivered with clean energy with a very small carbon footprint.

As electric vehicle technology becomes even more cutting edge, a lot of companies are switching to environment-friendly 'green' options. And now, food delivery app Swiggy has announced that it will be piloting electric vehicles in 10 cities across the country for its services.

Electric vehicles can lower running costs by as much as 40% when compared to conventional petrol-powered vehicles. This will result in higher effective pay-outs for their delivery partners and those who own the electric vehicles.

A couple of years ago, in an innovative move, Swiggy deployed a fleet of bicycle riders for short distance deliveries and the idea worked really well for the brand. With close to 10,000 delivery partners on cycles each day, in some cities, the average time of delivery on cycles is even lesser than any two-wheeler. Swiggy has successfully completed 1.5 million orders on bicycles so far!

The brand has tied up with Indian firms like Mobycy, e-Hiran and TNT to procure electric vehicles.

Making a note from the initiative, Zomato also plans on converting 40% of its delivery fleet to electric vehicles.

So every time we order food now, we will be leaving behind a less prominent carbon footprint!
