The Simpsons have been around for more than 20 years and the series has adopted every single idea creators can come up with. Every episode has content that envelopes almost every single artistic concept.

In the last few years, the striking resemblance between reality and episodes of the show have led people to believe that The Simpsons predicted the future.

And for all that speculation, there's a whole lot of evidence.

The episode titled "Bart To The Future" shows Lisa as the President of the USA attempting to rebuild the economy after Donald Trump ruined it during his term as president.

"The Donald Trump that we were writing about was kind of a lovable, over-the-top character and didn’t have this darkness." Dan Greaney, a writer on the show explained.

The episode aired in 2000, and now Trump is in power.

In another episode - "Lisa Goes Gaga" - they show Lady Gaga performing at the superbowl, and 5 years later, Lady Gaga performed at the Super Bowl in the same outfit and put up the same show.

This happens a lot with the show, and more and more people are noticing it now.

The latest theory is that The Simpsons predicted Greta Thunberg. In the 2007 film, The Simpsons, Homer Simpson takes up a job at the power plant and a pollution scandal, in violation of the Environment Protection Act, becomes the highlight of the plotline.

Lisa Simpson, Homer's daughter, who had always been passionate about climate change and the environment, takes it upon herself to save Springfield from dying.

In the case of Greta Thunberg, it was only a matter of time before a teenager took the global stage to speak about the types of issues that Lisa Simpson spoke about in the show.

After Thunberg’s speech at the UN, people started comparing its tone to Lisa’s presentation, and you can’t really blame them for that. Some even took it further, saying that Greta is Lisa’s real-life version.

And it’s not that far-fetched, really. Think about it, Lisa is a thoughtful, intelligent, outspoken young girl who doesn’t shy away from important topics no matter how many adults try to silence her. She’s the most prominent activist on the entire show. Kinda the same way that Greta is currently our’s.

The prediciton isn't that Greta Thunberg would be the climate activist that she is today, it was actually about how terrible the climate crisis would get, that a teenager would have to come upfront and talk about it.

Taking all this into consideration, do you really think that The Simpsons predict the future? Or are the writers simply good at visioning what the future will be like?
