Top 10 Spooky Movies To Watch Stoned This Fall

Halloween is fast approaching and these movies are perfect to keep you in the spirit and leave you spooked (and tripping)

Fall is here and everyone is ready to get into a Halloween spirit. However, since India is not too big on celebrating this iconic holiday, we've got you movies that’ll be a gateway to a darker side. Stoners tend to gravitate towards comedies that make no sense but Halloween is a time when horror movies seem most fun. The idea of tripping on ghosts and spirits seem fun (but only if there is someone else to watch it with).

From real horror that will get you spilling your popcorn(and your stash) everywhere to a more psychological thriller that will leave you stunned, this list has got it all. So roll your J, grab a partner and some popcorn and choose a favourite from the list.

1) Mama

This supernatural horror is about 2 girls who vanish into the woods after their parent's death, prompting a frantic search by their uncle Lucas and his girlfriend Annabel. Miraculously, 5 years later they are found in a decaying old cabin and are welcomed into a safe new house by Lucas and Annabel. However, strange occurrences start happening and Annabel realises there is a dark and ominous force that is controlling the children. Directed by the horror mastermind Guillermo Del Torro, this movie has the perfect balance of thrills, creepy soundtracks and dread to keep you at the edge of your seat.

Directed by - Guillermo Del Torro

Watch it - Amazon Prime

2) Await further instructions

This eerie mystery is about a family who wakes up on Christmas day to find a mysterious black substance surrounding the house with only a single message broadcasted on their TV “Stay indoors and await further instructions”. This movie has successfully merged the awkwardness of a large family being together during a holiday with the paranoia of a sci-fi thriller to keep the audience engaged throughout. It has the perfect balance of thriller and mystery that will keep you guessing what's going to happen next, but if you're a paranoid stoner, skip this one to avoid a bad trip. Not to give any spoilers, but the end of the movie has a surprising larger social message that will leave you thinking.

Directed by- Johnny Kervokian

Watch it- Netflix

3) Creep

As the name suggests, this Mark Duplass comedic horror will definitely leave you feeling creepy. The story is about Aaron, who answers an online ad and drives to a strangers house to film him for the day. What could possibly go wrong with filming in a strange man’s house right? Well, apparently a lot of things as the man keeps making bizarre requests in the name of shooting a movie for his unborn son. Talk about creepy, yikes! This movie has perfectly captured the traits of a subtle psychopath and will definitely leave you squirming. The filming of the movie is so well thought out that the viewer is always insecure about what is going to happen next. The buildup of the suspense is also well achieved and held its ground until the climax, which makes it an interesting watch. This movie was so well received that a part 2 also exists!

Directed by- Patrick Kack-Brice

Watch it - Netflix

4) Pet Sematary

Based on a Stephen King novel, a family moves into a rural town and stumbles onto an ancient burial ground that has sinister powers. After the family’s pet cat dies, they bury it in that same cemetery only to find a disastrous chain of events that unleash an unfathomable sinister evil. A remake from the original 1989 movie, this movie has been described as being able to effectively deliver an unsettling and eerie feeling that stays with you, long after the movie is over. While this movie is not extremely violent, it is pretty gory. So if you're a fan of stabbing, strangling and creepy, disturbing imagery then you should definitely check this one out.

Directed by- Kevin Kolsh and Dennis Widmyer

Watch it- Amazon Prime

5) Eli

This American Horror Story-Esq movie is about a boy who is undergoing treatment for a strange and unknown disease in a haunted house. If you're a fan of jump scares, creepy soundtracks and ghosts, this one is for you. The anagram of Eli coming from the word Lie is also shown in the trailer of the movie and seems to grasp our attention immediately. Children acting in horror flicks is reason enough to creep people out, but here you sympathise with Eli and root for him to find the truth. While the truth ends up being a full 360° from what you could have imagined, this movie does a good job of keeping you at the edge of your seat.
