Why Is Incest One Of The Most Searched Porn Category?

Incest isn't new territory for porn. From the Bible to the Mahabharat, incest has been an ever-present element of storytelling and taboo.

Incest isn't new territory for porn. A report by leading multimedia-adult-content providers GameLink.com revealed a 178 percent average increase in the consumption of "family role-play porn" between October 2014 and January 2015.

And it's not just straight incestual porn, either. In 2009, Czech studio Bel Ami's website doubled its traffic to 1.5 million monthly users, all flocking to witness the "twincest" videos of Elijah and Milo Peters.

From the Bible to the Mahabharat, incest has been an ever-present element of storytelling, and one that has always been frowned upon and taboo. But with porn, its "fauxcest" - the actors aren't really related to each other, only their characters are - which is what makes this section of porn appealing.

A lot of "incest" porn takes big measures to make sure viewers know the sex may be real but the relationships really aren't. Take Mommy and Me 9 (2014), for instance. At the start of each scene, the performers issue a disclaimer saying that they're not related. Before the first scene, Chasey Lain says, "This is in no way my daughter, we're not related in any way." To which Audrey Aguilera replies with, "And this is not my mother. I just met her today."

But what is it about incest that turns on people? Could it just be a simple Freudian desire that we act on and type into our search bars? Or is there more to it than just a simple taboo psychosexual desire?

"The industry does these movies because that's what sells.," he says. "And, very simply, they sell for their taboo factor," Dan O'Connell, founder of Girlfriends Films—a company that produces one of incest-themed porn's most popular series, said.

Just like O'Connell, many other producers, and companies that create incestual porn believe that incest sells because it has a certain amount of thrill to it, the taboo factor is so overwhelming the shame and guilt add to the whole experience.

It isn't just a psychosexual tendency, though that does play a certain role in the pleasure - it has more to do with the fact that someone would never act on these taboo desires but when they watch incest they don't have to. The fact that they can see it on screen without all the stigma around it, it makes them feel turned on and not ashamed entirely.

"That’s what, as a writer, is so interesting about taboo subjects," said Mills, one of the twins from the "twincest" series. "If it was real, that would be a crime; you’d say, 'Is that person okay?' There would be guilt. But when it’s disassociated, even if you don’t support that in real life, you want to take a peek in the room and see what’s happening."

However, incest in the real world is usually more traumatic and criminal oriented and it can have extremely mental health implications because the victims are very often children. The effects of incest in real life are harrowing because it has biological and social effects on both parties.

As for the porn industry, the producers and performers stick by their craft - "we don't put all the blame on violent Hollywood films for mass shootings, so why should they be held to a different standard?" they believe.

That is a fair point to make, and there isn't much research that warrants for or against incestual porn. Though incest is a popular category for porn websites, there's very little information that explains why, but we do have that little psychosexual voice at the back of our head asking us to enjoy something taboo, which could explain it.
