Women Tell Us What They Like About Their Period

I thought I should ask other women if they like anything about their period. Eventually, they all came up with something to be grateful about.

I know periods suck. And I know you can't think of even one good thing about them because everything is gross, moody and absolutely annoying. But, if you think hard and long enough about it - there are actually a few things that may be nice about being on your period.

I think it's a really good time of the month for three reasons - a) I'm not pregnant. (always a relief) b) I can be moody and people don't call me out for it. c) saying the dialogue - "but do you have blood coming out of you? No? Then shut up."

And after speaking to a friend and being accused of being batshit crazy for thinking that periods are a good thing - I thought I should ask other women if they like anything about their period. They took a while to think of something, but eventually, they all came up with something to be grateful about.

"Weird question. I have never thought about it, to be honest. I mean sure I'm happy that I don't have a child inside my womb, does that count? Oh and also, everyone around me is much kinder and patient around me. That's something I've noticed. When they know I'm chumming, they suddenly become the softest people I know." Shreya, 24 said.

If only I had that luck, people around me really couldn't care less about my period and are the same around me. No loss, but I'd like some extra attention, please.

"Easy. I'm a baby on my period and everyone has to be nice to me, I get unlimited chocolates and ice cream, what's not to like? I don't even cramp and I think I have the lightest flow in the world. It's a great time to be rewarded for not being pregnant." Sanjana, 21 told us.

Light flow? No cramps? Sounds fake but ok.

"I can sleep the whole day, miss college for a few days and my parents don't say anything. It's probably because I have terrible cramping and I cry a lot, but hey, that's okay with me as long as I get to skip college." Rhea, 19 laughed.
"Well, nothing about periods is great - obviously - but I think it's the perfect excuse to opt out of things you don't want to do, and no one can question or pester you about it. I love it when a plan I don't want to commit to turns out to be scheduled exactly on my period." Anushka, 19 said.

The amount of times this has happened is unreal, but it's a wonderful excuse to skip out on anything really. A party where your ex is also invited? Periods. A pooja where your cool cousins aren't showing up? Periods. Housework? Periods. It's the standard excuse.

"I'm the horniest on my period. It's the best sex I have through the month because my libido is at it's peak and I get very experimental and handsy. A little blood isn't going to stop me from satisfying my needs." Neha, 26.

After all the trash talk about periods, I think it has a few - the tiniest - benefits as well. Sure, all the cramping, bleeding, staining and crying apart - be glad you aren't pregnant, I guess.
